Competition project of a new residential neighbourhood on the outskirts of Brno more

The site of the former unfinished ERGON production plant is a sort of a ´terrace´ above the adjacent residential quarter of family houses and the centre of Brno. This position provides views to the centre of the city, and the north side is, at the same time, surrounded by nature (former quarry and nearby forests). Trees and the terrain hide the greater part of the adjacent development of panel houses from views. All this, including good access for traffic, makes this land an ideal place for a new residential quarter. We based our design on the configuration of the local terrain and the orientation to cardinal points. A new development of raw terrace family houses starts on the south and west edge of the terrain plateau. Their front gardens follow on from the green along the alley in the valley on the south that should transform into a natural forest park with pedestrian and cycling paths in the future. A residential street with the second row of family houses of larger floors areas runs behind the broken line of these terrace houses; their gardens in turn continuously convert into park greenery of the ´central park´ to the whole residential quarter. Each house has a direct entrance from this street. Bigger 4-5 storied houses are designed in several groups arranged along the main street (along the north edge of the defined site). These houses, even due to their position on the opposite side of the location than the row houses, have sufficient views from almost all flats and so, the row closes the park from the north; a quiet and safe area for all residents is established this way here.
